They have codified student learning outcomes, implemented internationalized courses and campus-based cocurricular activities, and increased support for student and faculty exchange and international agreements. Most, however, struggle with the development and implementation of an assessment plan that will provide stakeholders with the kind of information they need to evaluate the effectiveness of internationalization activities. Fewer still have developed methods for using assessment data to sustain and improve their internationalization initiative.

Hilary Landorf, PhD
Florida International University
Hilary Landorf is an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at Florida International University (FIU). She serves as the director of FIU’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives, as well as the leader of its master of science degree program in international and intercultural education. Landorf holds a PhD in international education from New York University, an MA in English literature from the University of Virginia, and a BA in English literature from Stanford University.
Landorf has held educational leadership positions throughout her professional career, which spans a variety of geographical, cultural, socioeconomic, and academic settings. Her leadership style is characterized by a vision of the big picture complemented by careful attention and management of details. Her expertise centers on visioning, developing, designing, and implementing the policies and practices of internationalization efforts in higher education. She writes and presents internationally on integrating global learning into higher education, and on the connection between global learning and liberal education. Among her recent publications is a coauthored chapter, “Global Learning for Global Citizenship,” in Universities and human development: A sustainable imaginary for the XXI century, edited by Melanie Walker and Alejandra Boni.
Stephanie Paul Doscher, EdD
Florida International University
Stephanie Doscher serves as the associate director of Florida International University’s (FIU) Office of Global Learning Initiatives and as a program evaluator for several FIU grant-funded programs. Doscher earned a BA in history and theater studies from Emory University and an MEd in secondary education from Western Washington University. She holds an EdD in educational administration and supervision from FIU, where her dissertation centered on the development and validation of two rubrics measuring undergraduates’ global awareness and global perspective. The rubrics are now integral to FIU’s global learning initiative, used to assess student learning via a variety of performance tasks in courses across disciplines and through a program-level pre- and postinterdisciplinary case analysis activity. Doscher consults with all FIU global learning faculty in the design of course learning outcomes and assessments and in the use of results for continuous improvement.
As an educational leader, Doscher’s broad expertise also includes strategic planning and organizational change, faculty and staff development, and curriculum design and reform.
